How to Make the Most of Your Landscape During Fall?

Landscapes are often considered as living entities that go through various stages of life just like any other living organism. The annual lifecycle doesn't necessarily require you to redesign landscape every year. Instead, you can implement well-thought landscape management practises to prolong the shelf-life and boost the value of your existing landscape designs. There are many ways by which you can make the most of what you already have.

Here are top 5 tasks you need to do to your fall landscaping to make the most of your buck.
  • Plan your perennials & divide them in a way so that you can create space for fresh plants that have grown big- for instance, Daylilies, Irises etc., Chop them into equal halves, replant one half and plant the remaining half into some other areas where you have enough space to start gardening.
  • Consider transplanting small to medium-sized shrubs that have become crowded in the beds and are easy to move. For instance, Rhododendrons, Boxwood can be carried easily and you can plant them when temperature starts to fall. You may come across a dozen of new plants peeping out, which were hiding for long and consider planting them at new landscape areas. However, before transplanting and digging, make sure the plants are hydrated and the best way to do so is to start watering them a few days before!
  • Fall is the best time to remove weed right from the roots. Summer is not the ideal time for weed control as they can spread miserably, doing more damage than good to your landscape designs.
  • Try to do a thorough clean up during fall including cutting down perennials and shrubs, edging beds, so that you can make your landscape ready for the Spring bloom. Fall is the best time to freshen up the mulch in your garden that can make weed control way easier and hassle-free.
  • Plant as many seeds as you can during Fall. It’s perhaps the best season for seeding your lawns. The soil is all warmed up during this time with roots gradually growing and rain approaching, all these comprising the key elements for making way for new garden landscaping in Perth and boosting the curb appeal of your property.
Fall is also considered to be the ideal time to introduce new plants to your garden.  With summers’ humidity and threat of drought all gone, it’s the best time for planting new perennials and shrubs.
